DETAILS

Tuition, materials, and meals listed in the schedule are included in the cost of the program. You are responsible for the cost of airfare, hotel and transportation.

Here's some of what the three-day retreat covers:

  • Authenticating your dream (tracing its history, assessing your readiness, testing the idea model, raising your capacity, preparing for risk)
  • Building your platform (moving from beggar to influencer, finding your audience, trading value for information, becoming an expert in your field)
  • Defining your idea model (filtering ideas, determining your sweet spot, finding demand, structuring the concept, building a "Great Group")
  • Funding your dream (great ideas are spreadsheets with skin on, creating revenue streams, shaping your financial strategy, cost reduction, investors)
  • Branding your dream (developing a total user experience, a field guide to designers, developing a communications arsenal, design thinking)
  • Creating milestones (executing the idea, working backward from the goal, productivity tools, the sacrificial substitution principle, the order of action)
  • Leveraging influence (if you don't have influence you borrow it, if you already have influence you still borrow it, creating social movements around your idea, networking with leaders who matter, mailing lists, platform)
  • Developing partnerships (creating win-wins, the art of negotiation, finding great partnerships, value exchanges, approaching partners, making the ask)
  • Rainmaking (sales for people who hate sales, how to put yourself out there, systems that produce revenue, closing deals, invoicing, merchant gateways)
  • Shaping an organization (organizational systems, proprietary vs outsourced, contractors versus employees, legal issues, sustainable organizations)
  • Positioning yourself (navigating the world of media, agents, publishers, and conference makers, marketing in an over-saturated field, differentiation)
  • And much more

Questions

1. Which airport should I fly into?

Norfolk International Airport (ORF) is the best option.

2. Which hotel should I stay at?

We recommend waiting to book in the fall for the best rates. Hotels are affordable in Virginia Beach during the wintertime. The Westin Hotel at Town Center is a great inland location. But if you prefer a beach view, the Hilton at Oceanfront is best. You can find some great deals on Hotels.com.

3. Could I share a room or rides with someone?

We'll share attendee information before the event so you can coordinate with other people coming in for the weekend. You could stay at the same hotel, schedule your flights at similar times and share car rides.

4. Is transportation provided?

No, and unfortunately there are no hotels within walking distance to the Arments' home. We recommend renting a car or coordinating with other attendees. Some local hotels offer shuttle services as well.
